Nothing beats the convenience and sound quality of Apple AirPods. But their small size leaves them vulnerable to loss, damage, and theft, which is why users should invest in AirPods protection.
Before you plunk down money on an AppleCare plan, you might want to read the fine print. Not all plans cover both damage and theft, and your care plan isn’t always worth the price.
At AKKO, we believe in doing things a little differently. Our protection plans will ensure your cell phone, as well as 25 other electronic devices.
This all-inclusive approach simplifies things a bit and saves you from having to rely on separate warranties and care plans on each device you own. Yes, our coverage includes protection for your AirPods. Let’s look at how AirPods protection can help you.
Can You Get Insurance on AirPods?
Out of the box, every pair of AirPods comes with a limited warranty, as well as 90 days of complimentary support. The limited warranty protects you in the event of a product defect and lasts for 12 months from the purchase date.
As far as free plans go, Apple can be commended for standing behind its products. However, this limited coverage only protects you from a defective product and won’t cover incidents of accidental damage or theft. For full coverage, you’ll need to purchase AirPods protection.
What Insurance Covers AirPods?
AirPod users can purchase protection that covers additional damage or even theft. But like any protection plan, it’s important to ask several crucial questions:
- What is the cost of the protection plan?
- How long will the coverage last?
- What does the plan specifically cover (damage, loss, theft, etc.)?
- How much is the deductible?
These factors should be carefully considered, as not every protection plan will provide the same quality of coverage.
AKKO vs. AppleCare+
For many consumers, AppleCare has become synonymous with AirPods protection. Users can purchase AppleCare+ for headphones within 60 days of the original purchase and will be provided up to two incidents of damage protection in a 12-month period.
Sounds good, right? But when you compare AKKO vs. AppleCare, you begin to notice areas where they come up short, such as:
- A separate AppleCare+ plan must be purchased for each device
- The base policy from AppleCare+ does not cover theft or loss
- AppleCare’s coverage only lasts 24 months (AKKO provides 36 months of coverage)
AppleCare+ does provide a separate plan called “AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss.” With this policy, Apple provides accidental damage coverage, as well as coverage for theft and loss.
Be warned, however, that the policy includes a deductible of up to $149. Worst of all, because AppleCare+ only covers one device per policy, take all these fees and multiply them by two.
AKKO provides protection for your phone as well as 25 other devices, including your AirPods. AKKO’s plan lasts a full 36 months, with no limit on the number of incidents covered.
AKKO vs. SquareTrade
Some consumers might consider finding a third-party provider for their AirPods protection. But compare AKKO vs. SquareTrade, and you’ll again see where our competitors fall short.
The standard SquareTrade plan only costs $34.99 for three years but doesn’t cover accidental damage from handling, loss, or spills. Users can upgrade to a plan that does, but the price jumps to $54.99 for three years.
Again, keep in mind that these plans only cover one item at a time. AKKO provides protection for your phone and 25 other electronic devices, providing a larger safety net of coverage.
What Does AirPods Insurance Cover?
AKKO’s protection plan covers every part of your AirPods, including:
- The headphones themselves
- The charging case
- Battery and charging cables
There is no limit to the type of damage that can be covered by our plan, regardless of whether damage occurs from a mechanical defect or an accident.
Best of all, AKKO’s protection plans don’t just cover your AirPods. It will also cover your phone, as well as your television, iPad, and any other electronic device in your household, providing great value for you and your family.
Does It Cover Lost or Stolen AirPods?
AKKO does not cover lost or stolen AirPods. That means if you’re out on a run and one of your earbuds falls loose, we can’t replace it for you.
The same is true if someone breaks into your locker at the gym and swipes your headphones.
How Does It Work?
You can purchase an AKKO protection plan directly through our website, which includes phone protection plans as well as coverage for up to 25 additional electronic devices. Coverage will last 36 months, starting from the date of purchase.
To qualify, you’ll need to provide AKKO proof of ownership, and when filing a theft claim, you’ll need to provide proof of purchase.
To file a claim, you can log into your AKKO account on your laptop or mobile device. A representative of AKKO will reach out to you within 24 hours. They may request more information about the problem, or they may direct you to a repair center, usually an Apple Store or authorized service provider.
For repairs, AKKO will pay you directly once your claim is approved, which is usually within 24 hours. Customers can expect to receive payment through PayPal, Zelle, or a wire transfer. AKKO can also pay the repair provider directly.
For replacement, AKKO will either send you a replacement pair of earbuds or send you the value of a refurbished pair of earbuds.
Can You Buy AirPods Insurance After Purchase?
Yes. Users can purchase any of our protection plans within 120 days of their original purchase. Your plan coverage will last for 36 months following the original purchase date of your AirPods (not the date that the plan was purchased).
However, you cannot purchase AirPods protection once your items have already been damaged or stolen. AKKO can only cover items that are in “new” condition, which underscores the importance of signing up for a plan as soon as you possibly can.
How Much Does AirPods Protection Cost?
Other AirPods protection providers have a confusing set of policies and deductibles. AKKO aims to simplify all that with straightforward plans and pricing.
To cover your AirPods, you’ll need to purchase our comprehensive “Everything Protected” plan. This plan costs a flat rate of $15.00 per month, though several discounts are available:
- $14.00/month when paying annually
- $12.00/month for students
- $10.00/month for students who pay annually
College students might therefore take advantage of these rates to ensure that their valuable electronics are protected when moving between dorms, walking across campus, or getting their exercise in.
There is a deductible. For damage or theft, customers will pay $99, though students also receive a discount on the deductible, paying only $49.
Again, this plan doesn’t just cover your AirPods. It also covers your phone as well as 25 other electronic devices. While this plan only allows for one actual phone per plan, you might consider one of AKKO’s family plans that can cover multiple phones throughout your household.
Keep in mind that every service visit to Apple will cost you. For example, even though your phone screen is covered by AppleCare, you’ll still be subject to a service fee of $29 plus applicable tax. This fee sounds low until you consider that the deductible can climb to $149, roughly 50% higher than the one attached to the plan offered by AKKO.
Is It Worth Getting Insurance on AirPods?
At present, Apple lists the cost of the AirPods pro at $249.00. Prices are lower for AirPods Beats earphones or Beats headphones, though still well over $100.
Given the size of each earbud, there is a greater risk of dropping, breaking or losing your AirPods. Based on the figures above, replacing them yourself isn’t exactly cost-efficient.
You’ll thank yourself for taking out a protection plan on your AirPods. With it, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that you can keep the music streaming no matter what happens. And because our policy covers a full range of electronics, you can also use our protection plan to protect your new TV, laptop, or even a new phone.
Do AirPods Come with a Warranty?
Apple provides a limited warranty for their products and will cover manufacturers’ defects for up to one full year. While this is helpful, this limited warranty is just that: limited.
Your warranty won’t protect you from theft, damage, loss, or anything other than a product defect. Only an actual protection plan will provide you and your devices with the coverage you need.
Buy Apple, Trust AKKO
At AKKO, we believe in covering devices even if they don’t feature a piece of fruit in their logo. That’s why our protection plans offer coverage for all of your electronic devices.
Before you invest in AppleCare, consider our protection plans to cover your AirPods, as well as any other electronic device that you regularly rely on. It may even be a good excuse to purchase that new TV or computer, which will be covered under the same plan as your AirPods.
Buy Apple, but trust AKKO. You’ll be glad you did.
